The stages of manufacturing

The different stages of manufacturing

Welcome to the workshop, go behind the scenes of the manufacturing of our different items. Discover the stages of the manufacturing of our products, from design to manufacturing with great attention to detail. We use sustainable materials, we rigorously test each prototype to ensure functionality and longevity. This approach allows us to create equipment that combines practicality with aesthetics, meeting the expectations of modern adventurers.

The stages of manufacturing

1. Conception and Design

All bags and accessories (bandanas, bibs, balaclavas, scarves) are imagined, designed and manufactured in our workshop . This work begins with an idea that emerges most of the time during a bike ride, and the seed begins to grow slowly.

The first drawings on paper are followed by a vector graphic design on the computer for certain products (bandanas, socks or labels). At this stage, we also carry out the process of searching for materials (sourcing in the jargon of the trade) to gather the raw materials that we will use.

2. Sponsorship

After deciding what form our project will take, the next step is to draw the pattern . It is necessary to take all the measurements into account so that each piece fits together without any problems and the manufacturing is easily reproducible.

This is when the technical solutions in manufacturing are defined, taking into account performance, the time needed to manufacture a part or to facilitate a repair if necessary. With us, everything is done by hand in the workshop , and for some bags we can have between 10 to 20 pieces depending on its volume and complexity. A real puzzle for some!

3. The cut

Our canvases are cut by hand on our cutting table. The process involves placing the templates on the fabric and tracing with a pencil directly onto the canvas.

Usually, we make mini-series to have some bags in our reserve available immediately, and it helps us reduce fabric losses and have fewer scraps. Sometimes, we try to juggle between different patterns to optimize the use of each square meter of canvas. Concerning the pieces that are used to stiffen our bags like the Baluchon or the Funambule, the cuts are made by laser less than 10 km from the workshop by our friends Christophe and Maude↗ .

4. Assembly and sewing

The fabric pieces, straps, linings, biases, are assembled with clips and then sent to the sewing machine. Each piece is carefully sewn on our different sewing machines↗ to guarantee impeccable precision and ensure the longevity of our products. To ensure the durability of each bag, we use a very strong thread, capable of resisting rain and UV rays.

5. Finishing

This is the long-awaited moment: the bags are turned right side out and we start the final finishing touches. Adding elastics, straps on the zippers, straps to attach the bags to the frame or handlebars and for some, we add a few last stopping stitches that will serve to reinforce certain seams.

Through this long and meticulous manual process, we guarantee the quality of our products and we implement an exciting craftsmanship that has motivated us from the beginning in this beautiful adventure that is Velocidade.

RICARDO VIEIRA-FOUNDER/DESIGNER/COUTURIER

Ricardo has been thinking for a long time about reducing his environmental impact, whether through his sporting practice of cycling, running, or in his everyday life, having decided to be vegetarian more than 20 years ago. Curious and passionate, he started creating and manufacturing his first objects when his grandfather gave him a sewing machine for his 17th birthday, and since then, he has worked to create, repair, and manufacture with the same energy and in the same direction, that of sobriety and localism. Convinced that the bicycle is the ultimate decarbonized solution for everyday travel, Ricardo decided to create Velocidade, and started designing and creating handmade bags, in a completely artisanal way.
